  • 4 cups ripe peaches, peeled and chopped Use ripe, sweet peaches for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust based on sweetness of the peaches.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Add to enhance flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Optional, for added spice.
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg Optional, for added spice.

Cooking Process

  • In a slow cooker or a large pot, combine the chopped peaches, sugar, lemon juice, and spices if using.
  • If using a slow cooker, cook on low for 6-8 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thick and spreadable.
  • If cooking on the stovetop, simmer over low heat for about 1-2 hours, stirring frequently to prevent sticking.
  • Once the peach butter reaches your desired consistency, remove from heat and let it cool.
  • Transfer to clean jars and store in the refrigerator or can for long-term storage.

Notes

Store in clean jars with airtight lids. It will keep well in the refrigerator for about 2 to 3 weeks. Properly canned peach butter can last up to a year when kept in a cool, dark place. You can also mix in vanilla extract for extra flavor.
